We were tasked with making a fiction film that was 2-3 minutes with the XA75 Canon. We had objective of including a multitude of shots we learned ranging from extreme close ups to extreme wide shots with a variety of movements and angles. Abby and I wrote the script, sketched the scenes, and shot it with the help of our friend, Kevin Seccia, to act in the film.
Abby Camp and I started out with developing a logline. "Young man writes a letter to his deceased father and struggles to grapple with the feeling that he’s missed out on time with him and lessons never learned." We then fleshed that out into a multidue of scenes with a handwritten story board to go along with it. Since we had no budget, and our only resources were what we already owned. we wanted focus on what could be a very realistic scenario so our film could come across as proffesional as possible. With such a personal and complex feeling it can be difficult to grasp those kinds of emotions and put what that feels like into perspective.

We shot on the Canon XA75 and used another volunteer student Kevin Seccia, to act in it. We wanted a darker film to match witht eh depressing mood so we opted for low lighting when we could, To capture audio we used a n mic attached to the Canon XA75. As part of the Assignment we had to include different shots, angles, and movements so we tried a wide variety.
I had a ton of fun in the post production process. Abby and I spent many hours in the library with premire pro, going through and editing our shots. It was particuallry intresting to see how much of an impact editing has on the work. We had to edit the charastics of the audio to mathc the scenses and the pacing. We had to color grade to try and keep our film all one mood.
